Black & Pali Solidarity earrings
These earrings are my favorite pair from this new collection. Both Black Americans and Palestinians have a rich history of solidarity that is tied together with the watermelon. The watermelon has been used as a means to oppress Black people and remove us from our history considering that this fruit is native to Africa. For the Palestinians, Zionists made it illegal to fly the Palestinian flag, so they began displaying watermelons in the place of the flag because it has the same colors as their flag, red, black, white and green. During the Black liberation movement in the U.S. in the 60's and 70's many of our leaders, Stokley Carmichael, Malcom X etc. spoke of the similarities between our struggle for liberation. When George Floyd was murdered by the police, murals of Floyd were painted in Gaza. One day, we both will be FREE (inshaAllah).
